We are pleased to present the RPOA-IUU Newsletter for Quarter 2 (April–June 2026), highlighting significant regional achievements, collaborative initiatives, and capacity-building efforts undertaken during the second quarter of 2026 in support of the Regional Plan of Action to Promote Responsible Fishing Practices including Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing.
This edition reflects the continued commitment of RPOA-IUU participating countries, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen regional cooperation in addressing the evolving challenges of IUU fishing and fisheries-related crimes. As threats to marine resources become increasingly transnational and complex, effective collaboration, information sharing, and coordinated enforcement remain essential to safeguarding sustainable fisheries and strengthening maritime governance across the region.
The Q2 2026 newsletter showcases several key milestones, including the Regional Workshop on Crimes in the Fisheries Sector in Bali, the commencement of the 2026 Fisheries Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) Training Course in Viet Nam, the RPOA-IUU Secretariat’s participation in the CTI-CFF Workshop on the IUU Fishing Risk Index, and its contribution to the CAPFISH Regional Summer Academy. This edition also commemorates the International Day Against Illegal Fishing, reaffirming the region’s shared commitment to implementing international instruments, enhancing fisheries intelligence, and promoting stronger regional partnerships in combating IUU fishing.
