We are pleased to announce the release of the RPOA-IUU Newsletter for Quarter 1 (January–March 2026), marking the first edition of the year and highlighting key developments, initiatives, and regional collaboration efforts undertaken during the opening quarter of 2026.
This edition reflects the continued commitment and collective efforts of RPOA-IUU participating countries, partners, and stakeholders in addressing Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing across the region. As IUU fishing continues to pose significant challenges to marine ecosystems, coastal livelihoods, and the sustainability of fisheries, strengthened cooperation, information exchange, and shared responsibility remain central to achieving meaningful progress.
The Q1 2026 newsletter captures important advancements in regional cooperation, including active participation in regional and international forums, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS). It also highlights key engagements of the RPOA-IUU Secretariat, including contributions to regional workshops, collaboration with international partners, and efforts to integrate technology and innovation into fisheries governance.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all contributors involved in the preparation of this newsletter, including the RPOA-IUU Secretariat, editorial team, member countries, partners, and observers, whose dedication and collaboration continue to drive progress in our shared mission.
As we move forward into 2026, we remain committed to strengthening regional cooperation, enhancing transparency, and advancing practical actions to combat IUU fishing. We invite you to explore this first edition of the 2026 RPOA-IUU Newsletter and join us in sustaining momentum toward resilient, well-managed, and sustainable fisheries across the region.
