The RPOA-IUU Newsletter October – December 2025

We are pleased to announce the release of the RPOA-IUU Newsletter for Quarter 4 (October–December 2025), the final edition of the year, highlighting key achievements, initiatives, and milestones accomplished during the last quarter of 2025.

As we conclude another productive year, this edition reflects the unwavering commitment and collective efforts of RPOA-IUU participating countries, partners, and stakeholders in combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing across the region. Despite the persistent challenges posed by IUU fishing to marine ecosystems, coastal livelihoods, and fisheries sustainability, sustained collaboration and shared responsibility have enabled continued progress throughout the year.

This issue captures important developments from the fourth quarter, including strengthened regional coordination, advancements in monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS), enhanced capacity-building initiatives, and constructive policy dialogues at both regional and subregional levels. The newsletter also highlights strategic meetings and partnerships that reinforce the role of RPOA-IUU as a platform for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and practical action.

The Q4 edition further underscores the importance of partnerships with regional and international organizations in advancing responsible fisheries management, addressing emerging issues such as labour conditions in the fisheries sector, and aligning national efforts with international instruments and best practices.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all contributors involved in the preparation of this newsletter, including the RPOA-IUU Secretariat, editorial team, member countries, partners, and observers, whose dedication and collaboration have been instrumental in advancing our shared mission throughout 2025.

As we look ahead to 2026, we remain committed to strengthening cooperation, embracing innovation, and sustaining momentum to combat IUU fishing and promote well-managed, sustainable fisheries in the region. We invite you to explore this final 2025 edition of the RPOA-IUU Newsletter and join us in continuing our collective efforts toward a resilient and sustainable future for our oceans.
