On December 13, 2024, the RPOA-IUU Secretariat participated in the “PSDKP Learning Edition 5: Dissemination of RPOA-IUU Fishing Performance” webinar hosted by the Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance (PSDKP), under the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Pung Nugroho Saksono, A.Pi, MM, Director General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance, who emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge and fostering regional collaboration in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Representing the RPOA-IUU Secretariat, Ms. Dita Primaoktasa shared the Secretariat’s accomplishments alongside achievements of participating countries. She highlighted the vital role of information-sharing mechanisms in strengthening regional efforts to reduce IUU fishing.
Mr. Yudistira Rizky Abdillah, a senior fisheries inspector at PSDKP and Indonesia’s focal point for the RPOA-IUU, presented Indonesia’s collaborative milestones achieved in partnership with the RPOA-IUU Secretariat and member countries. He underscored Indonesia’s success in intercepting the Run Zeng 03 and Run Zeng 05 vessels as a result of timely information-sharing within the RPOA-IUU network.
Mr. Rizky also referenced the positive outcomes of the 17th Coordination Committee Meeting (CCM) in Makati, Philippines, where these accomplishments were presented, reinforcing the value of regional cooperation and data-sharing to strengthen collective action against IUU fishing.
Mr. Ardiansyah, a senior policy analyst at PSDKP, presented a comprehensive report from various countries during the 17th RPOA-IUU CCM. He highlighted key progress made by several countries in implementing the agreed work plan. This positive progress includes the ratification and implementation of international and regional instruments, as well as a consistent effort to review and strengthen fisheries legislation.
This webinar highlighted the ongoing commitment of RPOA-IUU members and demonstrated the critical importance of collaboration to protect marine resources and ensure sustainable fisheries in the region.
